MaREI Signs MOU with Zhejiang University (July 22nd, 2015)
A delegation from the prestigious Zhejiang University, which included their Vice President and Director of the Institute for Thermal Energy signing a Memorandum of Understanding with UCC President Michael Murphy and the Vice Director of MaREI Prof Jerry D Murphy on July 22nd 2015.
July 22nd, 2015 – A delegation from the prestigious Zhejiang University, which included their Vice President and Director of the Institute for Thermal Energy, visited MaREI’s new headquarters at the Beaufort Building and the Environmental Research Institute before signing a Memorandum of Understanding with UCC President Michael Murphy and the Vice Director of MaREI Prof Jerry D Murphy on July 22nd 2015. The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UCC and Zhejiang University will strengthen research and teaching collaboration between the two universities including the initiation of a student exchange program at undergraduate level between Energy Engineering in Zhejiang University and Energy Engineering in UCC.
At postgraduate level, two PhD students from Zhejiang will be seconded to MaREI UCC to research gaseous biofuel later this year. It is expected that the collaboration will extend to ocean engineering. China leads the world in renewable energy investment and Zhejiang University hosts the key state laboratory for Energy. Founded in 1897, the university is one of China’s oldest and most prestigious institutions of higher education. The university campus is located in the city of Hangzhou, approximately 180 km southwest of Shanghai.
