New MaREI paper assesses 21 decarbonisation pathways for food and beverage sector

The latest paper entitled ‘Assessing decarbonisation pathways in the food and beverage sector: A multi-criteria decision analysis approach’  by MaREI researchers at University College Cork assesses 21 decarbonisation pathways for food & beverage using 5 MCDA methods.

Highlights: 

• Economic performance and emission savings were antagonistic.

• Anaerobic digestion was needed to achieve emissions savings greater than 67%.

• Equal criteria weights facilitated a profitable emissions reduction of 43%.

• Subjective criteria weights led to the least cost route to 100% emissions saving.
