Energy Policy and Modelling Research Group

The Energy Policy and Modelling Research Group are at the forefront of researching the future of Ireland’s energy system, the EPMG is dedicated to applying energy systems modelling and our expertise in the energy transition to advance the evidence base for the sustainable energy transition in Ireland and beyond. They are part of the part of the Energy Policy & Modelling Research Area in MaREI the Centre for Energy, Climate and Marine in the Environmental Research Institute, University College Cork, Ireland.

Their interdisciplinary research explores possible low-carbon energy futures and the role that technologies, demand, society and policy play in bringing these about.

The group develops a suite of energy systems modelling tools focussing on different aspects of the energy system, which map how sustainable energy solutions could evolve in response to policies and other drivers.

They engage extensively across society to improve the public’s understanding of the role of the energy system in driving climate change, energy security and the economy, and through research and engagement they seek to help address the multiple challenges facing society through the lens of energy.

MaREI researchers provide evidence to the Oireachtas Committee

On Tuesday the 23rd of April, MaREI Director Brian Ó Gallachóir, Professor Hannah Daly, Dr Paul Deane and Róisín Moriarty from University College Cork presented to the Joint Committee on Environment and Climate Action to discuss the findings of Ireland’s Climate Change Assessment Report.
