OVERVIEW
Baiba Pruse is part of the MaREI team at UCC where with her colleagues she explores citizen engagement across Ocean Mission activities. Her work is linked to citizen science, and ethnobiology and she brings her passion to participatory action research (in combination with art-based practices) in her daily work.
CURRENT ACTIVITIES
She currently serves as a chair for a Working group on Green spaces and citizen science at the European Citizen Science Association. Baiba is also involved in the Society of Ethnobotany Newsletter committee and just recently was part of the editorial team for ECSA/ACSC 2024 proceedings.
BACKGROUND
Baiba Prūse is an interdisciplinary researcher from Latvia with a focus on local ecological knowledge (ethnobiology) and citizen science. She holds a B.Sc. from Business Academy Aarhus (Denmark) in the Environmental management field and M.Sc. from Uppsala University (Sweden) in Sustainable Development. Baiba completed her PhD on knowledge co-creation in Environmental Sciences at the University of Latvia in 2020. She has worked in several European countries, including Italy (Ca’Foscari University of Venice), on the interrelationship between nature and people, in the Netherlands (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam), contributing to research on citizen-driven initiatives as well as serving as a coach for Master courses (Interdisciplinary Community Service Learning; Policy, Politics and Participation).
