Climate Lab: What Should Industry’s Role and Responsibility be in Tackling Climate Change?

The impact of climate change has been identified as one of the top risks facing industry in the coming decades. Rising temperatures and sea levels, population and demographic shifts, along with increased incidence of extreme weather events that cause disruptions could mean that entire industries may have to change dramatically or disappear. Industry can be a catalyst and a driver for change in the transition to a low carbon society or it can act as a brake on this transition.
In this UCC Climate Lab seminar, William Sisson will discuss the role that industry could be and is playing towards deep-decarbonisation in specific sectors of our economy, and in helping society avoid the worst impacts of climate change. We will then call on the audience to share their views or questions on industry’s role, either as a catalyst or a brake.
William Sisson directs United Technologies Corporation’s (UTC) strategic efforts and advocacy for sustainable development. He is a member of UTC’s Sustainability Council, chartered to align UTC’s strategic sustainability initiatives with its business interests. Sisson also currently serves as UTC’s Liaison Delegate to the World Business Council for Sustainable Development and is Co-chair of that organization’s Energy Efficiency in Buildings Project
