Community event: documentary screening ‘Plastic in Paradise’ and panel discussion on June 7th
Documentary screening ‘Plastic in Paradise’ followed by panel discussion to explore the issue of marine litter.
Wednesday June 07th 2017 @ 7.30pm in the Royal Cork Yacht Club, Crosshaven, Cork
A collaborative evening event between An Taisce’s Coastal Programmes and the MaREI Centre for Marine and Renewable Energy, to celebrate Clean Coasts Week, Cork Harbour Festival and World Oceans Day!
Irish Documentary maker Vincent Hyland will screen his new documentary “Plastics in Paradise” which will be followed by a discussion to explore the growing problem of marine litter and micro plastics and their implications on our environment and health.
A panel consisting of a variety of people involved with marine litter issues will kick off the discussion; researchers from MaREI/UCC’s Environmental Research Institute, film makers, community influencers and people working on the ground to bring about and encourage positive behaviour change. The panel will consider the current and projected issues in Ireland and further afield, and will discuss possible ways to bring about changes in how we are currently living. The audience will then be asked to contribute to a cafe style discussion looking at problems facing communities, barriers to action and potential solutions.
Free to attend as part of Clean Coasts Week and Cork Harbour Festival 2017.
