Ellen Hutchins Building Open Day
On Saturday 8th February from 10.30am to 12.30pm, join us in honoring Ellen Hutchins’ Anniversary and the International Day of Women and Girls in Science with a special open day at the ERI Ellen Hutchins Building on the Lee Road. There’ll be activities for adults and children aged 6 and above, including: specimen making; Find Where Found Poetry Workshop with Baiba Pruse; writing with a Quill Pen with historical re-enactor, Carrie O’Flynn; seeing how microscopes and hand lenses allow us to access to the hidden world of lichens with Paul Whelan; and Exploring Leaves with Lizzy Maskey – one of Ellen’s great great great grand nieces.
As well as all that you can see some of Ellen’s books, letters and seaweed specimens; browse botany books and learn about her life and work.
This is perfect for families, nature lovers, history enthusiasts, or anyone looking for a fun way to spend a Saturday morning. There’s even free parking on site!
