New paper on Green Hydrogen in Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews

Figure from paper on Green Hydrogen

A new paper by Fabio Bozzolo Lueckel from the University of Galway on green hydrogen supply chain modelling was published in Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews.

They unveil the gaps in the literature on energy systems that include hydrogen production. In summary, we found that Hydrogen Production Supply Chains are unique to each geography making its generalisation an inaccurate assumption. Besides, many key variables are exogenized in hydrogen models, and we discuss why optimisation and modelling approaches matter to obtain accurate projections of the future of Decarbonised Energy Systems.

Paper Highlights

  • Hydrogen production has not been integrated accurately in energy systems models.
  • Variables of production models are exogenized in energy systems models and vice versa.
  • Geographical uniqueness has not been addressed in hydrogen energy systems models.
  • Optimisation approaches of models are incompatible due to each player’s interest.
