New paper on the effects of whiskey-barrel derived biochar addition to anaerobic digestion at a distillery
A new paper led by Dr Anga Hackula titled ‘Investigating the effects of whiskey-barrel derived biochar addition to anaerobic digestion at a distillery: A study on energy yield and system efficiency’ is available to read here.
Highlights
- Whiskey barrel-derived biochar enhanced biomethane production by up to 15 %.
- Biochar addition reduced the biomethane lag time by up to 42 %.
- Whiskey barrel-derived biochar had positive mechanistic effects on hydrolysis and acidogenesis.
- Integrated anaerobic digestion-pyrolysis system achieved an energy efficiency of 68%.
Very proud of this paper led by Dr @AngaHackula with Dr @davvywall as senior author in collaboration with great colleagues in Chemistry & Microbiology @SEFSUCC @UCC & Nanjing City.
