New report by The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage
A new report was published online yesterday, by The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage – Ecological sensitivity analysis of the western Irish Sea to inform future designation of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs).
This report is a significant milestone as we look to manage the Irish Sea in a coherent and sustainable way, enabling and supporting the future designation of Marine Protected areas, and integrating MPAs with the maritime sectors of shipping and fishing and Renewable Offshore Energy.
Co-Authoured by MaREI’s Damien Haberlin, Dr Tom Doyle and Dr Danielle Orrell, representing UCC, MaREI and the School of BEES, they worked alongside a dedicated team from University Galway, University College Dublin, the Marine Institute and staff from the Dep.
