Aims
AquaSpace aims to provide increased space for aquaculture production by identifying and attempting to overcome key constraints limiting the industry’s development using an ecosystem approach leading to a sustainable increase in EU aquaculture, while maintaining environmental quality.
The overall impact of the project will be to enable the aquaculture sector to grow sustainably and to effectively negotiate for space using Marine Spatial Planning.
Increased Production
The aquaculture sector needs to increase production in the face of declining wild fish stocks and increased demand for seafood worldwide. Despite many government and EU initiatives to increase aquaculture development, European aquaculture production has flat-lined in recent years.
Increased Space
AquaSpace will provide increased space of high water quality for aquaculture, leading to sustainable development and increased production.

AquaSpace Transition Year Video Contest
Congratulations to all entrants to the AquaSpace TY Video Contest. Schools from Ireland competed in the contest in order to understand where the fish for dinner comes from. Through the medium of video, the teams expressed their views on the aquaculture sector. To view all 6 final videos see our Facebook page and check out the winning videos below!
In addition, all 6 finalists videos will be screened at the 2017 First Cut Youth Film Festival in Youghal on April 27th. Keep an eye on our project website for information about the next round of competitions from the other partner countries.
