Selkie Project featured in Project Marine Newsletter

This issue’s newsletter from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage features the Selkie project.

This article highlights the ‘Streamlined commercialisation pathway for the Marine Renewable Energy Industry’. 

The Selkie Project was an Ireland – Wales co-operation to streamline the commercialisation of the wave and tidal energy industry. It was EU funded, €5.2M, administrated by the Welsh European Funding Office ( WEFO) and the consortium consisted of MaREI, the SFI Centre for Energy, Climate and Marine in University College Cork, Swansea University plus four skilled industry partners, each with their own expertise; Gavin and Doherty Geosolutions, Dublin. DP Energy, Cork, Marine Energy Wales, Pembrokeshire and Menter Mon, Anglesey.

Ireland and Wales have a large wave and tidal resource, which has the potential to provide significant low carbon energy. The development of successful MRE sector will lead to the production of clean electricity, job creation and technology export to a worldwide market.
